Traveling to Singapore with kids (2): Pim Pam by Foc food review

Verdict: Affordable and GREAT Spanish food. Comparable to the great food in Spain. Definitely will revisit.

Singapore, like many other big cities, is a foodie's paradise. I was already very impressed with the food court's standard (the Hainan chicken rice yum!) but of the last two times I was there, I went to the Clarke Quay area and haven't found an impressive restaurant yet. I was not aiming at finding a great restaurant this time around because we were taking a toddler and a seven-month-old baby with us so hardly a good time for restaurant-hunting. But precisely it was because Benji was so tired and crabby after a long day at the zoo that we decided to venture no further and settle for whichever next restaurant came by us. We found the GEM!

The gem is called Tim Tam Foc. It is a Spanish restaurant situated on Orchard Road (where the main shopping malls are but on the other end. About 8 minutes walk from the Ion Orchard Mall) next to the Orchard Hotel.

The restaurant is big and spacious with a nice decor but surprisingly the prices was good. Tapas start at around $8 SGD up to $20+ for fancier dishes and paellas are priced around SG$22-$26. Living in Hong Kong, these prices for Spanish food are unbelievably good. What's much more important is that the food quality is really good! And if I may say so after traveling many times in Spain and enjoying the really good food in Madrid and the Malaga area (under the introduction of local Spanish culinary lovers), I dare say this restaurant can compare to the authentic and really good Spanish food in Spain.

We ordered 4 tapas and 1 paella and we loved everything we got:

1. Cauliflower steak:

A vegetarian delight. Grilled cauliflower in basil pesto sauce, olive oil with roasted pine nuts. This dish was a today's special, surprisingly good and only SG$8!

2. Gazpacho:

This cold tomato soup is a signature southern Spanish tapas. They added a layer of mildly sweet cream on the soup served with croutons and the combo tasted so fresh. Perfect for the hot and humid weather in Singapore.

3. Sauteed prawn in garlic, olive oil and basil

My favorite tapas of the night. I am not a seafood lover and I don't really like seafood in any other style other than Spanish style (authentic ones). But this one was really good and the oil tasted really good. I didn't waste the oil and dipped the bread with it and enjoyed the last drip of it.

4. Chicken and eggplant paella

The waiter replaced the rice with a thin noodle upon our request as our little boy only likes noodles and not rice. The noodles is similar to being stir-fried and really good. I wasn't sure I tasted the eggplant though but maybe it was so smashed. The overall concoction was great.

5. Goat cheese salad

Can't personally speak for this one as this was my hubby's dish and I'm not a goat cheese fan. He reported the goat cheese and the salad was excellent.

Overall, we were really impressed with this restaurant and I regretted not ordering more. Next time I must try the Galician octopus which was my favorite dish in Spain. This dish must be quite tricky as only a handful I had even in Spain were good and I certainly have not had luck with an excellent Galician octopus in Asia.

Have you ever been to Pim Pam by Foc in Singapore? Are you equally impressive? Which restaurants in Singapore are on top of your list? Let us know so I can try on my next trip to Singapore!
